The Curious Case of Lil’ Kim
Technology is a marvelous thing. However “with great power comes great responsibility” quoted from a spiderman movie. It seems like a lot of people have issues with the way that they were created. Will the clay say to the potter, “Why have you made me like this?” But as technology moves rapidly forward the changes are becoming more and more outlandish and bizarre.
Today, there is a completely new community of transgenders among us. The most popular being the Olympic medalist Bruce Jenner who now goes by the name Caitlyn Jenner. The latest with ‘her’ is that she will be getting into a same-sex marriage. Also the creators of the Matrix movie trilogy will soon be known as the Wachowski sisters instead, as the second brother has decided to surrender his manhood to the surgeon’s blade. As new advancements are made they expect transgenders to have full reproductive capabilities over the next few years. Soon it will not really matter who you were born to be, whatever your fancy, technology will be able to take care of that, of course as long as you have the money.
A lesson to be noted is that the grass is not always greener on the other side. This is something that some trans-women only realize when it is a little too late to go back. They then continue to exist in a haze of regret in a sexual no-man’s land.
As advances are being made, not only can your gender being changed, but as it appears, also your race. Features and complexion no longer appear to be any real issue that cannot be dealt with effectively. This brings us to Lil’ Kim. A New York native, born Kimberly Denise Jones in 1974. She first hit the music scene in the ’90s alongside rapper The Notorious B.I.G., with whom Jones had a rocky romantic relationship. Over the course of her decade-spanning career, Lil’ Kim has dramatically changed her appearance multiple times, appearing with lighter skin and more dramatic facial features.
She’s one of the most successful female rappers the world has ever seen. And, assuming it matters, she used to be a black woman. But after years of plastic surgery and progressive skin-bleaching—and who knows what she’s done to her hair?—she’s not black anymore.
However, these changes may have been driven by her perceptions of society, and what she believes is desired by men. As far back as 2000, Kim explained that she’d always been told by men—“even the ones I was dating”—that she wasn’t pretty enough. She said, “I have low self-esteem and I always have,” she told Newsweek in an interview in 2000. “Guys always cheated on me with women who were European-looking. You know, the long-hair type. Really beautiful women that left me thinking, ‘How I can I compete with that?’ Being a regular black girl wasn’t good enough.”
In order to compete body wise, she also opened up about getting breast implants. She said, “That surgery was the most pain I’ve ever been in in my life,” she said. “But people made such a big deal about it. White women get them every day. It was to make me look the way I wanted to look. It’s my body.” Fans who now look at Lil’ Kim’s new white face feel a deep, inscrutable pain. Some fans responded to the new look with disappointment and confusion.
The truth of the situation is this, the “man market” is very competitive. But if you are dating an unfaithful rat, he will continue to be unfaithful in spite of the way that you look. The key is firstly to love yourself for who you are. If you do not truly love yourself for who you are, then no-one else is going to truly love you either. True love should not be based only on the outward appearance. Beauty fades in all women, so if that is your foundation for love, you are building your relationship on sinking sand. A collapse will be inevitable.
